I Am A Mother
By Denise D. Hiers
I will be bold and say “I am a Mother”
In a world that demands me to confess that I am something other
Something other than the truth they want me to deny
But I will not appease them, no I will not lie
A birthing person, really? Is what they want me to embrace?
But I will not embrace that because that is a disgrace.
To take away honor and put dishonor in its place
No matter how much you try to destroy it, the truth will not erase.
So I will not appease them, no I will not lie
By saying something other than the truth they want me to deny
In a world that demands me to confess that I am something other,
I will continue to stand bold and say “I am a Mother”.
